Canoeing — Rivers & Twin Lakes
A guided paddle on the Mukungwa River or across the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, shaped around your time and pace. Fishermen, terraced hillsides and the volcanoes behind you. The quietest way to see this landscape. 30–45 minutes' drive.

A community-run centre in Nyakinama where you choose your own afternoon — basket weaving, banana beer brewing, traditional cooking, drumming, painting. Every activity is led by local artists and makers, and every visit supports them directly. 30 minutes' drive.

Walk the stalls of Musanze's central market with a member of our kitchen team. Volcanic-soil potatoes, tree tomatoes, passion fruit, beans in a dozen colours — much of it grown within sight of the lodge. Taste, ask, and bring something back for dinner. 30 minutes' drive.

Bird Watching with Our Resident Guide
Volcanoes National Park holds close to 200 species - our own garden more than 50. Species in the area include Albertine Rift endemics found almost nowhere else — Rwenzori turaco, Rwenzori double-collared sunbird, handsome francolin. Our resident guide knows their calls and their perches. Start in the lodge gardens and go as far as you like.
